                                                    Kathleen S. Nelson Scholarships

                                                    Dr. Kathleen S. Nelson, CSEP, CMP was passionate about education in the events industry, a passion she dedicated her life to.  As a faculty member at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, Kathy taught entertainment and event management courses in the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration.  She earned her Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degrees all at UNLV and went on to develop the event portion of the Meetings and Events major and an Entertainment minor in the hotel college.

                                                    Kathy was dedicated to educating event professionals in higher education institutions as well as in a continuing education capacity for professionals and was published countless times in magazines, academic publications and textbooks.  She co-authored The International Dictionary of Event Management alongside Dr. Joe Goldblatt, CSEP.  Additionally she authored Special Events Management and co-authored Entertainment Management in Introduction to the Hospitality Industry.  She also authored Special Events Management in Hotel Operations Management.

                                                    In addition to her dedication to teaching in a higher education setting, Kathy also believed in continuing education for professionals through ISES and AEP.  She was a founding member of the Academic Event Professional Conference, an active committee member as well as a frequent presenter at the AEP conferences.  It is in this spirit that AEP is honored so offer two new scholarships to attend the conference:

                                                    Kathleen S. Nelson Scholarship for Young Academic Event Professionals

                                                    Kathleen S. Nelson Academic Event Professional Student Scholarship

                                                    The Kathleen S. Nelson Scholarships have been established to assist young and upcoming professionals in the field of academic event planning and students enrolled in a course of study that will lead to a career in academic event planning to attend the Academic Event Professional Conference each year.

                                                    The scholarship will cover:
                                                      ·         the cost of the AEP Conference registration
                                                      ·         a two-night hotel stay at the official AEP Conference hotel
                                                      ·         up to $300 in reimbursement for travel expenses to and from the Conference (not including food costs)

                                                    Scholarship recipients will be recognized during the Conference program.  Recipients will also be involved with Sunday’s set up for the conference and will be asked to assist at the Registration Table that day.

                                                    Deadline for nomination submissions is 12:00 AM (EST) on Monday, October 17, 2011.  Recipients will be notified of their selection by Friday, November 18, 2011.
